BREAKING NEWS: Alex Brown officially released

Well, it finally happened. Alex Brown was released today, April 1st, in which was probably the worst kept secret this offseason for the Bears.

Brown finished his career with the Bears after 8 years, starting 127 games over his tenure with the Bears- only missing one game. Compiling 43.5 sacks over those 8 years, 55 tackles for a loss, 5 interceptions, 16 forced fumbles and 5 defensive touchdowns.

Coming out of the University of Florida, Brown had a reputation for taking plays off which led to his fall in the draft. The Bears selected him in the 4th round and quickly realized the assumptions of Browns lackluster play were simply inaccurate.

You won't find another person in the Bears locker room as classy as Alex Brown, saying this about the Bears via twitter; "I am extremely grateful for my time as a Chicago Bear and I wish the Bears the best. I am glad that they gave me an opportunity to realize a dream I had as a child. I appreciate the fans but as we all know this is the nature of the business. Bear down!"

Brown still thinks he has four to five productive years in him, saying he still thinks he's in his prime. The Bears signed Julius Peppers this offseason, making Brown expendable because of all the young talent on the Bears roster.

Whether this was the right move or not, Alex Brown will always be a Bear and we should all with him the best of luck for him and his family in whatever the future brings. Bear down!

Now, lets hope the Bears can get some production from their young prospects for once..
